Volunteering for Lightning in a Bottle

The deadline for applying for volunteering at LIB 2008 has now passed.

Thank-you for your interest in volunteering your time and energy to Lightning in a Bottle 2008.  Contributing to everyone's experience is a big part of LIB, and the volunteers are one of the most visible and important parts of the process.  We expect a lot from our volunteers, and we think there's a lot to be gained from the experience.  If you are prepared to work up a sweat with us, be on time, and stay sober for your shifts, then please proceed with the application and hopefully, welcome to the team!

2008 Volunteer Need to Know

Please read the volunteer guidelines thoroughly and fill out the application in its entirety.  Please note:  Volunteers are placed on a first come, first serve basis, the only exception will be for preference for previous LIB volunteer service.

Eligibility:  Only volunteers who can commit to availability during all 4 days of the festival will be considered.  There are a few positions on Tuesday-Thursday before the festival and Tuesday-Thursday after the festival. 

The following must be included with your application to be considered for a volunteer:

1.) Please fully complete the online volunteer application.  Only applications that are completed in their entirety will be considered.

2.) Provide ticket deposit payment information. A deposit by check or credit card authorization must be provided as collateral against the completion of volunteer duties.  If you choose the authorization via credit card option, you will be charged a $5 processing fee only if your application to volunteer is accepted. If you choose to mail a check to cover your deposit there is no processing fee.

  • When selecting the credit card authorization method, your credit card information is stored securely with our merchant processor.   A $5 processing fee will be charged only if your volunteer application is accepted. If you do not complete the volunteer requirements $140.00 will be charged to the credit card you provided.
  • When selecting the deposit via check method, your check for $140 will be safely stored until the end of the event. Upon completion of the volunteer requirements, the check will be destroyed.  If you do not complete the volunteer requirements your check for $140.00 will be deposited.  There is no processing fee when deposit is made by mail-in check.  Your application will be processed when the deposit check is received. 3.) Once you submit your application, you will automatically receive an email letting you know we received your application.  It does not mean you have been accepted.  All positions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, the only exception will be for preference for previous LIB volunteer service.  If you are accepted as a volunteer you will receive the following 3 emails: 

  1. An acceptance email
  2. Information on your location and schedule assignment
  3. A reminder email.

If you have not heard from us by May 16th and you are still interested in volunteering, there may be last minute positions.   If you are no longer interested in volunteering please let us know by May 9th and we will cancel your application and destroy your check or credit card information.

Reminder for all Festival Volunteers

Thank you for your interest and eagerness to participate at our festival. Please note that volunteers are responsible for setting up their own camping accommodations - there are no volunteer specific accommodations provided. Frequently Asked Questions about Volunteering

How does volunteering work?
You will be required to work four, 4-hour shifts in exchange for a 4-day festival pass.  The minimum age to volunteer is 18.

Are volunteer accommodations provided?
Volunteers are responsible for setting up their own campsite.  No specific volunteer area is provided, but you are free to set up in any of the campsite areas throughout the festival.

What if I need to cancel?
You can cancel until May 9th, and we will destroy your deposit check or credit card information. After May 9th, your deposit is non-refundable.  Emergency cancellations will be dealt with on a case by case basis.  Documentation may be required.

What if I must see one performance or participate in one workshop?
We will make every effort to schedule you around a specific performance or workshop, but we can’t guarantee it.  There is a section on the application to note your favorite performance or workshop.

What if I must work with my friend?
There is a section on the application where you can put the person(s) name. Please submit applications within the same week.  If you submit them too far apart the times may be filled.
